Irregular Bleeding
Is my irregular bleeding normal?
Many women experience irregular bleeding at some time in their life. There are various causes of bleeding and many are often quite normal. Nonetheless, you are the best person to decide what's normal for you. Make sure to contact your gynaecologist if you experience a sudden change in the regularity of your periods and symptoms.
Make it a routine to record your menstrual information such as number of pads or tampons used, pain, cramps, length (number of bleeding days) and flow (heavy or light) of menstrual cycle on a calendar. This chart helps your doctor determine whether your bleeding is normal or not.
Tracking your period symptoms helps you predict the date of your future periods and related changes in your body such as mood fluctuations and associated pre-menstrual symptoms.
A missed menstrual period indicates that you might be pregnant. Also, breast feeding delays the regularity of menstrual cycles following pregnancy. Certain hormonal disorders, infection of the pelvic organs, uterine fibroids (growths), increased physical activity and stress may also result in irregular menstrual bleeding. The menstrual cycle gets shorter once you are near menopause.
Irregular bleedings can be a frustrating and stressful situation in your life. Talk to your doctor about your symptoms and the various treatment options.
